"Another Way to Die" has a pretty catchy opening riff. Then it starts to fall apart and becomes a White Stripes song, and not a James Bond song anymore.

In the opening credits of Goldfinger you can see Goldfinger's golden revolver shooting more than once unlike at the end on the jet. I am assuming that in the struggle to fight over the gun it fired several shots which killed Goldfinger's henchman and shot the window out. However, Peter Hunt came across a logistic problem when editing this last scene. If you look closely, he resembles the same henchman who is ejected out of the Aston Martin earlier in the film. Although, that henchman could have survived the ejection, Hunt must have thought this was a major gaffe and did his best to edit around the final scene. The editing worked because many people, including one sound editor on the same film, did not notice the gaffe for decades until home video allowed us to study these films frame by frame.

I love both the film and the TV version, but my favourite adapation is the original BBC radio version with Bernard Hepton as Smiley. The BBC redid it on radio starring Simon Russell Beale when they did the whole Smiley canon. Interestingly all the different versions noticeably differ from the book.

If James Bond has one huge advantage over Jason Voorhees, Pinhead, Leprechaun, and even Critters, it’s this: Moonraker holds the title of the best “Character In Space” movie of all time, period.

    6. Timothy Dalton (the cheap Bond) 5. Pierce Brosnan (his love scenes are cringeworthy) 4. Sean Connery (old reliable) 3. George Lazenby (most handsome) 2. Roger Moore (the Gen X Bond) 1. Daniel Craig (his 5 films are hard to beat)

Connery: From Russia with Love, Lazenby: Bobsled fight, Moore: The Spy who Loved Me. Dalton: The Living Daylights(Goldeneye was written for him and Xenia was mention in the Living Daylights), Brosnan: Goldeneye( the rest were mediocre at best) Craig: Casino Royale.

DR. No was the first Bond film I saw and is still my favorite. In 2024 it has the obvious “retro” feel to it, which only makes the film even better. When I was in Jamaica I did the climb up Dunns River Falls. I’m almost sure I saw Sean Connery and Ursula Andress !

One of the top five best bond movies. And I liked him better than Craig and dalton. He was as good as Roger Moore but more believe able. Variety and many others praised lazenby for being human and so he wasn’t criticized as you say. Did you actually read reviews or are you just prejudging like everyone else. He is better than dalton and Craig’s brooding and depressed bond which bored me to tears.

  • @edcbabc

They are both excellent in their different ways. If you haven't read the book, then the film will make you want to read it. But, if you have read it, JleC's stories are always very intricate and detailed, quite hard work in some ways, and you just can't get all that into a film. So, if you like the books, watch the series, but if you want an introduction, watch the film. But, is one better thsn the other? Not really, they are just different treatments of a brilliant story.

"Wren Lieutenant" was based on Muriel Wright, Fleming's girlfriend before Ann, as I recall, whom he apparently wanted to marry. The scene of her death in the movie is nothing like how she really died, though.

My favourite Bonds Best to worst: 1. Sean Connery (Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿) 2. Timothy Dalton (Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿) 3. Roger Moore (England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿) 4. Pierce Brosnan (Ireland 🇮🇪) 5. George Lazenby (Australia 🇦🇺) 6. Daniel Craig (England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿) I never liked Craig. He was too serious and looked more like a mad White Aryan National Socialist than a British Secret Agent. Lazenby was underrated, would probably be better if he had done more 007 films. Dalton would have been no. 1 (because he was the closest to Fleming’s novel character 100%) but I can’t resist Connery’s charm and he was the OG.

Some of these things work, even though most don't. For example, the moment where Bond poses in a gorilla costume and checks his watch-that's super silly, but for me, it works. And on the subject of gorillas-what about the scene in Diamonds where the gorilla girl is said to be from "Nairobi, South Africa"? World Atlas, anyone?

I love Octopussy, and there's a lot of good, clean, Bondian fun in the film ... but ... there's always a but. 007's Tarzan moment (AGAIN it comes with an annoying sound effect), and the moment when he tells the tiger to SIT-okay, it's a moment of humour, and at least it's over quickly, but it's just too much.
